Paw Patrol Birthday Pawty!!

I was not going to do a post about this but I felt like it was my civil duty to help other parents out there..lol

So for my daughter’s third birthday I sat her down and asked her what theme she would like ..with out hesitation she shouted out “Paw Patrol Mama”.

No problem ..right?

That night I went online to search for some decorations and supplies, my credit card in hand.

To my surprise, shock and slight horror (ok, maybe not horror, but you understand what mean), there was nothing.

Nada. Zip.

I couldn’t flipping believe a company would put out a new show targeted at young children, 2 months before Christmas and not put out any merchandise. Not a DVD, not a balloon, stuffed toy, not even a napkin! What kind of sadistic company would do this? Do they not have children of there own? Geez.

So I asked her again, this time suggesting different cartoon shows. How about Dora? She’s an awesome explorer! What about Lalaloopsy ? Creepy Button eyes….You love them!! Ok, How about Blues clues..A man-boy with a cute dog who loves mysteries??

Each time I asked she replied with the same calm decisive answer………….No!

Crap!

Ok , now what?

So, I did what I always do when i’m at a total loss of what to get someone. I turned to etsy.com. Land of the brilliant and crafty! Salvation to tired weary mother’s and defeated, confused gift givers desperate for unique items.

Hooray!! I finally found some really cute items, thank you etsy craft goddess and Pinterest.

Salvation!

Oh , the things we do for our kids 🙂 Here is how it turned out. Hope this helps any of you out there stuck for ideas.

Happy Birthday to my Junebug hope you loved your Pawty!!

Alice | Paper Heart Pixie Photography NYC Children’s Photographer, Long Island Children’s Photographer

“Alice came to a fork in the road. ‘Which road do I take?’ she asked.
‘Where do you want to go?’ responded the Cheshire Cat.
‘I don’t know,’ Alice answered.
‘Then,’ said the Cat, ‘it doesn’t matter.”

One of my Favorite books Is Alice in Wonderland, As a kid I was fascinated by the Idea that I could fall into a hole somewhere and enter a world different from ours. Where magic still exists and dreams come alive.

Here are some recent Images of my beautiful Niece Alice.

This impromptu  session brings me to such a happy magical place, and my dear Alice you are an amazing person..I’m looking forward to watching you grow into an amazing woman 🙂

Spring is here!! Yippee :)

So recently I was asked how I get toddlers to look at the camera..and how do I get them to sit still for a pose.

Well …the short answer is I don’t.

The truth is.. young children can be very fun but very hard to photograph. Some kids run, some hide, some are even afraid of the camera and cry…Oh No!

Every child is different but that’s what makes photographing them so special.  I know as a mom..even I was nervous when I had my family pictures taken. Would Junebug behave? Would she throw a category 5 tantrum and scare off the Photographer? I had to keep reminding myself she is Two and in peak Toddler glory.

The main thing to try to remember is… This is who THEY are RIGHT now 🙂

Rambunctious, Curious, Cookie Crumbed faces, Dirty finger nailed ..Joyful, Magical little people.

So if I have any advice to share it would be ; Make sure they are well fed & not tired, do not wake them up from a nap then try to sit them down for photos 🙂 Follow them around and try to catch them doing something adorable instead of posing them.

If you are the one taking the pics..get down on their level, ask questions..who is your favorite? Dora? Thomas the train? Try to get another person to engage them or make them laugh. Sing their favorite song, Ask them to make animal sounds..Can you roar like a lion?

Play games with them, have a parent give a little tickle or toss in the air.

Try blowing bubbles or a animating a favorite toy . They also sell these cute little critters that can fit around your lens called Lens Buddies..Pure genius!

Haha, I can promise you ..I must look completely crazy to other people when i’m trying to photograph a toddler.

Happy Spring!!

{Christine} A fellow Photographer friend, why networking is a good thing.

Ahhh..I’m so behind in my blog posts 😦  I recently took some pictures of my friend Christine so she could update her  headshot on the”about me ” page of her new website. Even though it was cold and I was super nervous we had a blast , her laugh is contagious! This brings me to the subject of Networking. I’ve never understood the ” me, myself and I” mentality when it comes to photography. Yes, yes ..I know..an over-saturated market , the competition blah blah…but have we ever stopped and thought about how our negative thinking actually effects our field? Perhaps networking could really help our businesses grow? When I think about how some Photographers are so concerned about others stealing their ideas and not wanting to help new Photographers learn the ropes this quote often comes to mind.. ” No one has ever become poor by giving.” Anne Frank. I asked a Photographer once what lens she was using  and she flat out told me she didn’t share information about how she captured her images. Really? I remember feeling so discouraged and small. Thankfully I’ve  since found a great group online  that is very supportive and always willing to help each other out.
I really love hanging out with other togs, you learn so much. We are all artists, we all have struggles. Networking and reaching out can only help our community grow and prosper. Christine is moving her business down to North Carolina soon…So If you  live in that area and are looking for a Photographer  Christine is your gal 🙂 check out her work at  http://evablu.com/index2.php#!/HOME

Commercial shoot for Little Wellies <3

I have some really exciting news!! For the last few days I’ve been working on a Mary Poppins inspired shoot for Little Wellies .If you haven’t seen their handmade clothing for kids go check out the page 🙂 After two prior tries..little Miss Juniper was nicknamed “Mary Poopins” lol. First attempt, it was a cold dreary day, Junebug wasn’t having it, After two pictures she started cry so we ended the session and went to grandpa’s house for the day instead. Second attempt, I don’t know what I was thinking..it was freezing outside, no way in hell even Mary Poppins herself would have been cooperative. Miss juniper said Heck no! I don’t blame her even I was cold..so we ended up with one shot and called it a wrap. At this point I was feeling a bit panicked because the photos were due by the end of the week. I sat in my car , collected my thoughts and tried to remain calm and focused..lol. I decided to do it indoors, we grabbed a few props I thought would compliment the dress and started shooting. We finally got some awesome pics!!

Here is take one..hahaha
